Introduction
Sant Miquel de Mata is a Gothic church listed as a cultural asset of local interest. Together with Sant Martí de Mata, it was a place of worship of the old rural parish of Sant Martí de Mata, which in modern times became a dependency of Santa Maria de Mataró.
It is a small late-Gothic hermitage with a single nave and an apse to the east, where the altar stands, plus a side chapel on the north side, a sacristy and a choir. It has a simple ribbed vault with interesting carved corbels and keystones, under a gabled roof. It has a bell gable with two openings.
On the north side of the hermitage is the hermit's house, known as “Cal Monjo”. Outside the church is the hamlet's cemetery, built in 1805.
We continue along the forest track to the right of the church towards Sant Martí de Mata and, staying on the path and skirting a vineyard, we reach Can Flaquer, located next to the hermitage of Sant Martí, right beside the path to Lorita. We leave the farmhouse on our right and keep climbing until we reach some steps leading to the hermitage of Sant Martí de Mata.
