Introduction
In the 16th century, the area shifted from a natural landscape to an agricultural one, creating the need to stop sand from the beach advancing inland towards farmland. It was then that pi pinyoner were planted on the sand—which is what we are walking on today.
This strip of pine forest was later urbanised, with campsites such as les Filipines being established. Ornamental plants from the campsite era can still be identified: eucalyptus, dandelions, albízies, miòpors, pitòspors, baladres, and plomalls or cortadèries, the latter being a major invasive species in the Remolar-Filipines area.
The pine forest favours the appearance of other high-value plant communities, such as orchid communities. For this reason, the area is classified and protected within the Xarxa Natura 2000 network.
