Introduction

Along the Camí de les Filipines runs a channel or corredora that forms part of the drainage network carrying water from the fields to rieres or lagoons.

This humid environment favours a strip of specialised vegetation: canyissos or reed beds, present in lagoons, areas with a high water table, and along canal and drainage margins.

This vegetation plays an important role in filtering excess nutrients from agricultural runoff and also serves as a biological corridor and a biodiversity hotspot.

In these wet environments, vegetation grows very quickly. This is both positive and negative, as invasive species such as canya americana also grow rapidly. It should not be confused with canyís, which is smaller and thinner.

There are also places where a climbing plant grows over the reeds: lligabosc (Lonicera japonica), an exotic invasive species that smothers the vegetation it encounters.
