Introduction

At the edge of the three hills and other shores, we find, discarded, abandoned chestnut plantations. They are the testimony of the only chestnut farms in the Maresme. Now, where the natural forest begins to grow, we can find oaks and cork oaks.

From chestnut trees, wood was used to make barrels (forks, hoops and bushes), this means that the cutting time of each tree was about 10-12 years to take advantage of the thin and flexible wood of the young tree. For this reason the trees have several feet and they are thin, because they had been cut several times.

The office of cooper was the precursor to the carpenter, the boats that traveled by sea had to be entirely of wood to avoid the appearance of rust, from there the trade diversified and derived into the carpenter's.

As for the specimens we see, and unlike what happens in the Massís del Montseny where there are trees with a large port to take advantage of the fruit, here the chestnut trees are thin, to take advantage of wood. Making a "botada" meant cutting it to make barrels.
