Introduction

The estany del Remolar and the maresma de les Filipines form one of the main wetland areas of the Llobregat delta. The estany del Remolar, documented since the 11th century, is an ancient river mouth still connected to the sea.

The Vidala arm, already shown on 19th-century maps, was enlarged in the mid-20th century.

This viewpoint overlooks a small section of the extensive maresma de les Filipines. Historically, poplars, willows and tamarius formed woodland patches, while pinewoods were planted later.

The remaining landscape consists of floodable meadows, rush beds and reed beds, historically grazed by wildlife. Grazing controls vegetation and provides feeding, resting and breeding habitats for birds.
