Rutes Viladecans
Index card

Introduction

One of the three main towers of Viladecans. Also called Torre Marcusa, Torre Sança, and Torre Burguesa, after prominent owners. The Burguès family owned the watchtower from the 13th century. By the feudal system and commission of the Counts of Barcelona, this family dominated the village and surrounding lands as a small state of their property, known as Quadra Burguesa.

Machicolations and third-floor windows show the defensive character of this medieval fortress. The Torre-roja has undergone several expansions and renovations to the present day.

The building has four perimeter wings surrounding a large central courtyard, from which all areas are accessed. The courtyard features arcaded walkways with semicircular arches. The tower owes its name to the Eramprunyà stone used in its construction.

Today, it houses municipal and administrative offices, including the Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC) and the Territorial Planning Area of the Town Hall.
