Introduction

​​​​The trail you are on links the town of Torroella de Montgrí to the Hermitage of Santa Caterina. On your left, dry-stone walls stabilise the ground, and in some stretches, a small paved section is preserved.

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, wars and epidemics made Santa Caterina an important site of for popular devotion, especially for the people of Torroella de Montgrí. They gave thanks to the saint for protecting them from these evils and so they went, on this trail, to the hermitage where a gathering was held every 25 November. This tradition has been preserved to the present day with people from various towns and villages in the surrounding area going to Santa Caterina in November to eat with friends and family.
