Introduction
The group of fishermen’s huts in la Creu is listed in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
The fishermen’s huts or “botigues” are evidence of the relationship between people and the sea. These structures, built by guilds or municipalities, had various functions, such as refuges for the fishermen or stores for boats, nets and fishing equipment. In some areas of the Costa Brava, “botigues” were privately owned and “barraques” were communal. Close to them, there were lines for drying nets, often made of cotton.
They are built on the coastal rocks in an area with a slope down to the sea to facilitate access for boats and for protection from bad weather and the sea.
