Introduction

The trail now reaches the track leading to Sobrestany and follows it uphill. At this point, there are pretty shrubs from the rose family. The service tree (Sorbus domestica) has an edible fruit similar to pears but smaller. In Roman times, an alcoholic drink was made from the fermented juice of service tree fruits. This drink was called cerevisa which is the root of the Catalan word for beer, cervesa. In the autumn, its compound leaves turn a reddish tone before dropping. Other species with a compund leaf (an axis divided into leaflets) that can be seen here include the false acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia), an introduced species, and the mastic (Pistacia lentiscus) with shiny green evergreen leaves.
