Description
The treasures of the coast and the interior of the municipality of l’Escala
The route starts next to Cala Montgó and follows the GR-92 towards the centre of l’Escala. On this stretch you will have the chance to admire Illa Mateua, the cliffs of the Punta dels Cinc Sous and the beach of Salpatx before reaching the Port de la Clota Grossa.
You walk around Cala de Riells and the old part of l’Escala as far a Cala de La Creu, where there are still some fishermen’s huts.
A little further on, you cross the Rec del Molí and continue the route through the coastal dunes parallel to the beaches of el Rec, el Portitxol, les Muscleres and el Moll Grec before coming to the interesting village of Sant Martí d’Empúries.
At this point, you leave the coast and follow the road on the way out of the village for a few hundred metres before turning left towards Mas Sastruc and the old Church of Santa Magdalena.
You cross the GI-623 road towards the Masos de les Corts, where you can admire the defence towers of well-preserved old fortified farmhouses, before coming to the Molí de l’Escala. you are now heading for the Pi Gros and following the Camí de Can Guanter towards Can Jepot. Next, flanked by pine woods, comes the Camí dels Estanys to Mas Puig, at the level of which, you turn to the left on the interesting Camí dels Termes.
On the Camí dels Termes you sometimes walk between dry-stone walls on both sides which make this stretch of the route very enjoyable. If you are lucky enough to do the route in springtime, you will also have the chance to see lots of orchids before reaching Cala Montgó and your starting point.
