Introduction

This is a very ancient (possibly 17th or 18th Century) water mine excavated into the rock. In the past it supplied water to the town of Sant Feliu, although the water stopped flowing, possibly due to the detachment of one of the manholes around 30m inside the tunnel a few years ago.

This slope of Monticalvari was rich in mines and water. Other mines in the area are that of Can Blasco and the mines of the Monastery. The Monticalvari mine is large enough to allow a person to pass on foot inside and its depth is unknown but is estimated to be at least 50 metres.

For many years, this place was one of the meeting points of the people of Sant Feliu, where they would get together for afternoon tea and to drink water from the fountain. Years ago, the water fountain was altered to supply drinking water.

It's worth noting how the roots of the holm oaks in the trench at the entrance to the mine have gradually adapted to the land to find the tree's point of stability.
