Introduction

Interestingly, in this irrigated area we find crops that were also grown in the mountainous part of the municipality, beneath Montbaig.

Cereals and fig trees can be grown under dry conditions, but irrigation clearly improves yields. Figs become larger and more abundant, while cereals grow more vigorously and are ideal as fodder crops for livestock (sheep).

The artesian wells and the barraca de la Maria Tombarella, visible in the middle of the fields, are examples of the agricultural past, contrasting with the extensive vegetable cultivation that dominates the delta.

The area you are in, known as el bullidor, was a site of potable water springs, where the water table emerges at the surface.
