Introduction
Pine trees have been widely used next to the coast due to their good adaptation to sandy soils and to sea breezes. It is the pine that produces the biggest edible pine nuts, reason why they are used gastronomically in “picades”, cakes and “panellets”. Having a straight trunk and globular and compact top they also offer a good shade. The other pine tree we see here, with a conical cape and pine cones, is the pineapple, which is favored at the Gavarres due to its rapid growth.
