Pine trees have been widely used next to the coast due to their good adaptation to sandy soils and sea breezes. It is the pine that produces the biggest edible pine nuts, reason why they are used gastronomically in “picades”, cakes and “panellets”. Having a straight trunk and globular and compact top they also offer a good shade.
