Terme Gros Menhir

Index card

Introduction

A neolithic menhir 2 metres high, built between 3000 and 2500 BC which contains various engravings done subsequently, like a Latin cross carved into its north-east face. It served the purpose of marking the boundaries between several estates, including Can Codolar.

It served various purposes, from marking the territorial boundaries of villages to being a centre for religious ceremonies, especially funerals, or places where they worshipped the sun.

The most modern had sacred inscriptions and invocations for deities. For this reason, Christians moved some of the stones down and put a cross above them, turning them into Christian places of worship.
