Introduction

Now that we've been walking for a good while, we could rest a bit, don't you think? Let's sit down at the Font de l'Ocata (also called Eucata), which dates from 1919 and is owned by a family from Can Mata de la Garriga. For many summers, people from the village would rest here and have lunch with fresh water in a modernist arbour.

A farmhouse was also named after Ocata, together with certain geographical features in the municipality such as the torrent of Ocata. Make sure you don't confuse the sierra of Ocata with the sierra of the Font de l'Ocata, which is where we are now.

Palaeontological discoveries from the Vallesian period were also made here in the 1950s. Antelopes, deer, boar, hedgehogs, shrews, moles, chalicotheria and hamsters have all been found here. Two species are especially noteworthy: The Micromeryx flourensianus (a small musk deer that is different from others as it has no horns but does have very long tusks). The Prolagus oeningensis [a pika that is differentiated from rabbits and hares as it has short ears and no tail]
