Main Square of Prats de Rei

Index card

Introduction

We stand in the medieval heart of Prats de Rei: the Plaça Major, a small, elongated square surrounded by historic houses and presided over by the Town Hall, dating from the 16th century. On its façade, you can see the town’s old heraldic coat of arms, featuring the four stripes, roses, and two rampant lions.

Under the arcades is the Main Fountain, decorated with a large trencadís mosaic by artist Lívia Garreta, depicting a map of the town and its points of interest.

Very close by is Cal Claret, with a ceramic mural from the 1990s showing traditional bakers and the Virgin of the Portal. Also noteworthy is Cal Jona, a monumental house from the 17th and 18th centuries.

And if you look at the corners of the square, you will see two wrought-iron torch holders, where torches were once placed to light the streets before electricity—a living reminder of the oldest Prats de Rei.
