Introduction
Crossing the Muntanya Gran. Coves and cliffs
A linear route from the promenade in l’Estartit to Cala Montgó. The route passes through two very different environments; on the hand, garrigue and young Aleppo pine woodland, and on the other, as a climax to the day, the impressive sea cliffs with views of Cap de Creus close to Cala Montgó.
IMPORTANT: Times and distances are only for one direction. If you are planning to return on the same route, remember to double the times and distance. We recommend leaving a second car at the other end of the route or arranging transport to the starting point.
We recommend the Local Natura App to do this route. Download it for free here:

Description
Crossing the Muntanya Gran. Coves and cliffs
The Route to Cala Montgó starts just in front of l’Estartit’s tourism office on shopping streets heading towards the Salt d’Euga, where you can enjoy excellent views of the port of l’Estartit and the Medes Islands. After leaving this viewpoint, you continue gaining height, initially on a paved track, as you approach the higher sections of the Muntanya Gran.
On the way, you can enjoy discovering the distinctive features of this location’s flora and fauna. The garrigue of the Muntanya Gran is an ideal habitat for certain birds of prey and reptiles. We will discuss the difference between wild olives and the domesticated olives we are all familiar with, and on the way to the cliffs at Punta Ventosa and Punta del Milà you will have the chance to see orchids if you do the route during the spring.
The views of Punta Ventosa are well worth the effort of the walk. From here, you can see Punta Milà, Torre Montgó, the bay of Roses and Cap de Norfeu in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus.
The descent from here is steep and rocky, but also varied and enjoyable. You gradually approach the sea with continuous views of Cala Montgó ahead of you and Punta del Milà behind you.
